In a broad sense, environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to improve the natural environment (air, water, and/or land resources) to provide healthy water, air, and land for human habitation and for other species and organisms. From the perspective of planning and development projects, our consultancy has the necessity expertise to manage and guide construction so it does not have significant negative impacts on the surrounding environment. For example, we work to evaluate the most appropriate methods for waste-water treatment in the construction of different types of residential and commercial development. We have excellent working knowledge of relevant environmental engineering law in relation to such developments.
Our team has good experience in environmental impact assessment and mitigation of proposed developments, as requested by local authorities in Ireland. We have prepared reports that use a systematic identification and evaluation process to assess the potential impacts of a proposed project. We use scientific and engineering principles to evaluate if there are likely to be any adverse impacts of a project to water quality, traffic & transport, social & cultural activity, noise, visual aspects, etc. This is in addition to the ecological and landscape dimensions discussed in detail under the section “Ecological & Landscape Surveys”. If impacts are expected, we can often develop mitigation measures to limit or prevent such impacts. We have previously carried out Transportation Statements and Traffic Impact Assessments in relation to, for example, development of sporting facilities and agri-commercial projects. We have also prepared planning submissions and planning appeals to local authorities and An Bord Pleanála on behalf of local communities against proposed projects thought to be harmful to a community’s environment. Our team has appropriate expertise and experience in environmental engineering to meet the environmental criteria which many proposed developments must conform to in order to achieve a successful project outcome.
We also work with clients in the development of renewable energy projects. Renewable energy is beneficial to the environment as it is energy that comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, waves and geothermal heat. Wind power is an increasingly profitable industry. From previous experience, we can successfully prepare all the relevant planning documentation and reports for the installation of individual wind turbines or larger wind farms in suitable landscapes. Renewable energy can also result in significant cost savings for a client in his/her home. We have worked with clients to deliver solar power projects in their dwellings. We encourage prospective clients to contact us and discuss planning options if they are thinking of developing such renewable energy projects.
